Sadiq Ali, born in Udaipur, British India in 1910, was a freedom fighter who left home as a young student to attend Allahabad University. Inspired by the Nehru family’s leadership in the freedom movement, he joined Congress and actively participated in the national struggle, enduring multiple imprisonments.
In 1930, Gandhi’s defiance of the salt law led to his imprisonment. Sadiq Ali served as Office Secretary and later Permanent Secretary of the AICC from 1936 to 1948. He spent 1942 with Gandhi at Sevagram Ashram, focusing on the Khadi village industry.
He held the position of General Secretary from 1958 to 1962 and again from 1964 to 1969. Additionally, he was a member of the Provisional Parliament from 1950 to 1952 and served in the Rajya Sabha from 1957 to 1970. Furthermore, he assumed the role of Chief Editor of the AICC Economic Review from 1958 to 1962 and 1964 to 1969.

After India gained independence, Sadiq Ali entered politics. He served as the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, a member of the Provisional Parliament, and a member of the Rajya Sabha. Additionally, he held positions such as Chief Editor of the AICC Economic Review.
Sadiq Ali strongly opposed the partition of India and criticized the Muslim League’s Two Nation Theory. He believed in the unity and integrity of the nation and actively worked against the idea of dividing India into two separate nations.
