Best Dal Bati in Udaipur to Savour

Khamma Ghani!!

Are you in the City of Lakes and looking for the best dal bati churma in Udaipur, Here are the places recommended by the city foodies.

Do you know where Dal Bati came from? It all began with a humble bati during the rule of Bappa Rawal the King of Mewar, Rajasthan. It was a staple heavy wartime meal for Rajput soldiers. They used to bury these wheat flour dough balls in the hot sand and bake it until ready. Once cleaned, dipped in clarified butter (ghee) and eat with buttermilk or curd.

The dal came accompanied later when the Gupta empire bought its legacy of Panchmel dal which was a mixture of five lentils- masoor, moong, arhar, urad, and chana dal prepared in Indian mix and topped with Rajasthani lal mirch tadka.

At last, it is said that Choorma was discovered which was an accidental discovery. A cook from the Guhilot clan of Mewar added some sugarcane juice to some batis making bati taste soft and yummy. Women wanted to keep batis softer until men returned home so they started adding jaggery and water to the bati dough. It remained moist for a long and fell apart, it was how churma was made.
